Sustainability is the future of Luhuvilo so that the home does not have to rely on charity for funding. To this end, the sisters grow vegetables for the children to eat; 10 hens provide eggs and, hopefully, one day, meat. One of our cows is pregnant, so milk is on its way, and the 2 goats will one day soon produce kids we can sell for income.

We are raising money for our next long-term sustainability project. We plan to plant 60 avocado trees. These will take four years to harvest their first crop, but when the trees do, the orphanage will gain valuable income.

Our second sustainable project is the installation of solar panels; however, before this, we need to ensure there is enough income for the care and education of the children.

An important benefit of our sustainable projects is the involvement of the children. They are encouraged to care for the animals (see video), help the sisters with the garden and harvest, learning important skills for their future independence.
